Patricia McConnell PhD. wrote this
excellent blog about our often unrealistic expectations of dogs. She discussed the often heard “tired dogs are good dogs” concept and what can go wrong with it.
Other unrealistic expectations include:
My dog should always pay attention to me whenever I speak to him.
My dog should always respond correctly to cues I give him.
My dog should never growl at anyone or anything, ever.
The my dog should always and my dog should never list goes on . . .
“Always” and “never” are not realistic.
Just put yourself in his paws.
